drive shaft

Asked by GuruCYHFL Feb 08, 2019 at 04:19 AM about the 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD

Question type: General

Should the front drive shaft turn when 4wd not engaged ? I got the car last
summer and think 4wd was very little used although it seemed to work fine
when i tested it . I tried it this week (Feb) and now it does feel different when in
2wd . I have lifted each front wheel and they both turn the front shaft . Would it
be a front differential ?

Hi Rubicon , Yes happens when disengaged and it feels a different drive than before . When i bought it i drove it home 400km plus 3-4k local from July but no off road , so you get the feel of the drive . Could it be just lack of use ? would putting it in and out of 4wd once or twice daily help as its had little use . Also thought about changing the front diff oil . Any more thoughts . Regards Geoff
