1999 Ford Escort SE basically no air through vents,

Asked by JoeArwood May 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM about the 1999 Ford Escort 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Changed ac/heater blower motor and resister. Assumed blower was bad. I can
hear physical movement when selections made to where air flows.
Compressor kicks on. Plenum? flap over blower motor moves when fan turned
on. I understand no cabin filter on this model. DIY here. No great knowledge of
cars so simple is better. Thanks Joe Arwood

You will have to see if the door is actually opening from the blower motor area. The vent actuator may be damaged such as the arm to flap falling off or a broken gear cog within the vent actuator.. Would check the fresh air inlet vents for obstructions, leaves and other unwanted things. At least you have some spare parts for now. Good Luck!

Thanks, I watched the flap close through the slits in the housing right above the blower motor I cleaned the inlet when I changed out the blower motors. I think there were three or four leaves in that grid. Any other help greatly appreciated. I am in Fargo, ND and the weather has just hit the high 80s in the last couple of days.
