Intermittent failure of BSD/RCTA system

Asked by GuruP4QMV Jan 12, 2020 at 05:40 PM about the 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last year I backed into a post and hit the left side of the bumper.  The
BSD/RCTA system went OFF. I took the car to my dealer, who said the
detector was broken and they replaced it.  Failed again shortly thereafter.
Then the problem was a bent plate not detected first time, and they fixed it.
Failed again within 30 minutes after driving off.  Next time it was an abraded
wire.  Again the BSD/RCTA failed after a short time.  Now it works
sometimes and not others.  These ON/OFF events are quite random, in
nature and can happen while driving on a smooth highway, going ON, going
OFF, going ON, ,etc.  The dealer is not returning my calls.  What is the likely
problem with this warning system, which is very important to us? Should I go
to another dealer, or to the corporate office, or what?
