Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have water damage in my Nissan Pathfinder due to clogged sunroof drains.
The dealership doesn't want to take responsibility, my insurance doesn't either.
Has anyone been able to clean this mess up and or has anyone had significant
electrical issues down the road due to this water damage?

There has only been one guy that I head of and he went through heck finding another vehicle exactly like his that was wrecked and spent months stripping his soaked vehicle and replacing it with all the wiring and electronics from the wrecked one, a tire nightmare. Once a rig gets really wet inside then it’s only a matter of time before things start going bad, corrosion is very sneaky it can get into every connection and wire and slowly make a mess with everything. Good Luck.

If you really wanted to clean it up you should pull the carpet , dry the metal and treat any rust , the carpet could be vacuumed dry and blasted with compressed air . You can vacuum the carpet till your arm falls off but there would still be dampness underneath . That's what I think

I assume you have a mold/mildew smell now. I would use “Liquid Alive” made by Dymon. You can get it on Amazon. I buy a 4 gallon set at a time as its considerably cheaper that way. You will want to use it straight and make sure you get the upholstery or carpet about as deeply wet as the water got it wet. Let it sit and dwell for a few hours. Then use a wet vac to suck it up. If your nervous about how much to use, you can start slow and not use as much chemical. Then if the smells return, you would just have to repeat the process until its gone. The only other trick I have requires the carpet or upholstery seats or whatever to be pulled out the car and use a 12% hydrogen peroxide. I have done this type of cleaning in homes many many times. I also got a DIY carpet kit for my Honda Element and the carpet came wet and mildewy. So with a few treatments of both of the above methods, my car does not stink! But that was easier since I hadn’t installed the carpet yet. Shipping or something got the carpets wet and they smelled NASTY! Hope that helps!

Insurance won't cover this as it's a maintenance item. Dealers don't want to accept responsibility because of the infestation issue. Do a thorough cleaning, as beatupchevy recommends, and then use a fungicide and mildewcide to get at what is very likely already growing everywhere; and it's going to take several applications. This won't be easy..... And while you're at it, check the condensate drain under the dash on the passenger side.
