completely dead, Wha happened!?

Asked by GuruWKG22 May 16, 2018 at 04:55 PM about the 2000 Ford Ranger XLT Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ranger has been running with a faulty ignition switch (operates w/o a key) and the battery drains if the switch isn't left in exactly the right place. (the alarm rings when I open the door if it isn't.) This morning I guess I didn't set the switch right cause the battery was partially drained by lunch, weak dome light and would almost start then start clicking when I tried to start the engine. Got a jump at work and made it home, tuened off the truck and tried a restart, got a funny clicking trhen a pop and now it is completely dead, no power to anything. The transmisson relay looks fine and the battery has jucie, but no power is making it to the cab.
HELP!! Gotta go to work tomorrow.

I think you are past due for a new ignition switch. Check the fuses as the pop may have been a short.
