Sounds stupid but just a regular 20 watt fuse will replace 20 watt fusible link on the buzz box?

Yes, but 20 amp not watts. The difference between fuse link and a regular fuse, fuse link will opens the circuit when it physically gets hot or when current exceeds it's rating. Regular fuse opens with high current only

Someone told me add a link between alternator and battery. So it would charge higher. So i took one off firewall because it was two wires in the same spot. Then left one link for both wires now its dumping a ton of fuel but alternator is charging.
