No idle

Asked by Afterhoursmecanic Apr 03, 2019 at 10:26 PM about the 1991 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado LB RWD

91 ck1500 5.0 tbi will not idle unless I use the
accelerator to keep it running. Dies as soon as I put
it in gear have replaced the iac seemed to help but
short lived. Any suggestions?

My 90 5.7l has the same issue (among a plethora of others) if I remember correctly the issue with that generation for that particular fault (at least in my case) is with the oil pressure switch which is inconveniently located behind and below the distributor. My particular instance isn't as much the switch itself but in the wiring, there is a short in the wires that causes the switch to read no pressure, the computers in that generation are designed to shut the engine off at too low or no pressure. I'd replace the switch and check the wires for it as far back as you can to make sure there's no short in them as well.
