is there a check engine light? scan the computer for codes. you can google how to scan obd1 vehicles. easy using a paper clip. sometimes a bad ect (engine coolant temp sensor) can cause this, also sometimes a bad o2 sensor. there should be some kind of code in the computer to help you along. and yes, as Kelly suggested, wouldn't hurt to test the fuel pressure especially on a hot day.
