Fuel pump troubleshooting help

Asked by firefighter4634 Jun 03, 2017 at 02:02 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am having issue with my truck not starting. The fuel pump is less than a year
old but only runs 48 lbs of fuel pressure when cranking over. If I prime the
engine with pump it will start right up and then has 54 lbs of fuel pressure. I
dropped the tank and did a voltage drop test, the positive side had right at .52
volts but the ground side showed over 1 volt of drop. I read the .5 volts is ok. I
cleaned the ground wire to the frame and rechecked the voltage drop and it
remained the same. Now I am at a loss as to where to start looking to find
what is causing the voltage drop.

Check fuel pump relay and also when you installed pump. Did you tie in New fuel hose on pump or did you use the old coupler. Bad about leaking fuel on coupler

Thanks, I did not install a new fuel hose but wouldn't you smell or see fuel leaking?? I will do some testing on the relay and check for any fuel leaking by the coupler.

I am having same problem only 48 lbs of pressure, new fuel pump, spider injectors relay and filter truck will start and run but hesitates when going up hills but is fine on flat please help jsam81@gmail.com
