Engine reved up really high in "P" then the noise drops way down when I put it in "D"

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine in my G20 2000 is reved up really high when I first start the car
then the noise drops way down and I hear nothing when I put it in drive,
sounds like the engine is not even on but it is and drives great after that. I
bought this car at an auction a week ago it handles well and drives great
other than the loud idling when I first start it that's my only issue so far why is
it doing that?

I believe thats the idle air control valve acting up, at least is was on my car, same issue. I want to say they are pricey, I took mine out and sprayed the hell out of it with brake cleaner and it was fine, you might need to replace it, or have a shop if you dont want to tackle it yourself. Im sure youtube can give you a walkthrough. You can also try unplugging the MAF if yours has one, and see if that changes the idle, I think that was the other thing someone told me to check on my car too, both tend to randomly crap out.
