My 83 c10 shortbed is cranking up but dies back out and leaking gas from the carburetor and smoking what is the problem?

A leaking carburetor probably needs to be rebuilt. It may be a bad fuel float or stuck needle valve. The smoking is probably the truck running too rich. Black smoke means it is running rich. Also make sure the choke is not stuck on and that your spark plugs are in good shape.
