Th350 wont engage in any gears

Okay i have a 1985 C10 Silverado 5.0L i just
changed transmission from a th350 to another
th350 because the old one didnt have reverse. Now
that i have everything hooked up i go to test drive
it and when u pushed the shifter back into park
from neutral it falls back down to neutral and i
have to hold it in park for the truck to start then
when i got to put it in gear its like none of the
gears will catch and the truck just rolls. Any
suggestions or did i possibly hook the shifter up
wrong?

still got the old tranny ? may be the linkages are a little different . Sounds like the linkage is a bit out of sync .
