Squealing, Not Shifting, No Acceleration if i press the throttle too much

Asked by Ben Nov 20, 2020 at 03:01 AM about the 1995 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Cheyenne LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

To give some context, my truck will squeal most of the time when I start it in
cold weather, but now has randomly started squealing while driving
sometimes, Today, after I left work I was driving and it started to squeal and
when I pressed the throttle it would not accelerate, then the squealing
stopped and I was able to accelerate, but it would not shift, it would just go
up to redline at highway speed and not upshift or downshift, it rode like that
for a while then the squealing and no acceleration happned again and I
waited it out, fast forward to about 10 minutes from my house, it starts
shifting a little bit, but kind of weak if you know what i mean, and when i gave
it to much gas it would sort of grind and squeal and get no acceleration, then
it just died, very weak crank when trying to start it again but eventually it
started again, then the final thing that happened is when it died again after
giving to much gas, it sort of felt like it was having a hard time shifting and it
died, and the battery light came on, this time it did not start again, it will crank
now but no start, all lights work but the engine light comes on and stays on
when i put it in accessories mode and the battery light too, but my battery is
good because I tried jumping it and it read fine on the jumper box, Now i
don't know whats wrong, im going to replace the starter first and then maybe
the alternator, Please any help would be greatly appreciated because im still
paying off the loan i took out to buy it, probably a dumb idea, Some
information about it is that it has about 230,000 miles, a 6 inch lift on 33s i
believe, it has an exhaust leak and the starter would get very hot while i
drove it and the battery gauge would progressively get lower as I drove, but
it drove like that for about 6 months with no major problem.

Cheap belt and tentioner maybe failing not holding belt tight underload. Inspect belt and tentioner, tentioner should have some tightness to it when unloading belt if it is easy or floppy replace
