aftermarket fuel gauge 1997 Chevrolet C2500 5.7L

Asked by johnhkeys Sep 04, 2023 at 04:55 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Silverado Extended Cab RWD

Question type: General

My fuel gauge and oil pressure gauge are dead and I need to wire
aftermarket gauges.  The fuel gauge has me stumped already.  It requires a
hot wire, a switched wire which I have no problem setting up.  The "data"
wire from the tank seems to be a closely guarded secret.  I have a bundle of
wires running along with my fuel and brake lines to the back of the truck.
Which wire is going to be the "data" wire?  Probably not referred to as a data
wire but I am a master mason, not a master mechanic.  I work on all 5 of my
vehicles and am mechanically inclined.  I just need to know which wire goes
to my new gauge.

Some testing and an understanding of the circuit can save you some time and money on parts you didn't need , it may not be the gauges , . Get a multi tester and see if there's a good ground for those items .

The data wire will most likely be the hot wire and the other wire will be ground. Hope that helps! Jim
