why is my car attempting to start with jumper cables attached?

dead battery. wont take a jump.when i connected cables, car is attempting to
start and cables are heating up.

The starter solenoid is likely fried, that's where the exciter wire attaches. You can't charge the dead battery because it's dead, not near-dead. And because it won't take a charge, the cables collect resistance and heat up. Jumping a car can cause this.

Shorted battery, when that happens they will not jump or take a charge.
