A flashing check engine light is warning you that the engine is misfiring and damaging the catalytic converter. There are several reasons for an engine to be misfiring. A bad spark plug or ignition coil, for example. A tune up would fix that problem. Best to have a reputable repair shop properly diagnose it. More likely than not you don't need a new engine. Hope that helps! Jim
