What component of the a.c. system goes out more frequently

The clutch does not engage. The clutch does not engage even when the clutch
relay is bypassed. The freon level is OK.

on newer cars, there are high and low pressure sensors on the a/c lines that tell the on board computers that everything is within spec. If one of the sensors is faulty, the signal does not get to the computer and the clutch will not be activated.
