1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Accelerator Issue

Asked by 89SafariJeep Aug 20, 2017 at 11:15 AM about the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4 Dr STD 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '89 Grand Wagoneer, 360 AMC V-8. The issue I am having is that
when I am driving when I depress the accelerator it will on it's own go all the
way to the floor and the vehicle will accelerate out of my control. When I
press the brakes the engine idles down but as soon as I let off the breaks the
accelerator will again go all the way to the floor. Is this a linkage issue or
carb?

Sounds like the cruise control is engaging. It's been a while since I've worked on one of these. Disconnect cruise cable from carb and drive again. Either cruise is damaged or hooked up wrong.
