Hyundai Elantra revs high in P and requires high RPMs to change gears, what's wrong?

Asked by Jake Jan 21, 2014 at 11:41 PM about the 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, when it is in park it revs up to 4000 RPMs and stays there
until I put it into drive or reverse. When driving, it requires 4000 RPMs to change from first
gear to second and from second to third. I just recently replaced the MAP sensor and this
fixed the problem, but for only a few weeks. What is going on?
