2000 Ford Explorer Air Conditioner not working properly

Asked by 1970_ Jul 11, 2017 at 05:58 AM about the 2000 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Ford Explorer Air Conditioner is
not working properly. Sometimes it works
sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out why
it works, then it doesn't. I have noticed that
the rear vents blow air even when the front
vents don't. I'm just confused. Has anyone
else had this problem? And if so, do you
know how to fix it?

If it turns off and on it could be the compressor clutch. There is some excellent repair information on the clutch on youtube. If you hear the fan but get no air blowing it might be the actuator air blend door. If you get air but no cooling it could be the compressor.

Thank you so much for your reply, somedays the air conditioner works somedays it doesnt. I cant figure out why, when it works, all vents blow cold air and it works normal, when it doesn't work, the rear vent will only work.

I just bought a 2000 explorer and the rear fan blows but the front does not... did not. I tapped on the blower motor on the passenger side and it blows again. Means I'll need a new blower motor SOON. The a.c. still doesn't work but hopefully that helps a bit.
