If you have one tire which is newer than the other on the front with affront shell drive is it bad for the transmission?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

They have told me at Toyota it doesn't make a difference to have a tire 95% good on the passenger side
and another tire 50% good on the drivers's side.  Is this true?

It's best to have tires of the same size on each side of a drive axle. Some brands even if the same size do vary slightly in size, also more wear = smaller diameter. It can effect the differential due to the 2 different tire speeds. Is your car gonna blow up today or next week, no. But it's a good idea to replace tires on the front of a front wheel drive together. The back isnt as important, and becasue they just free spin they can have different sizes without damaging anyting. If your back tires are of same make and similar wear just have them rotated up front. However i would suggest to have the grippiest tires on the front.
