89 Mighty Max runs fine but gets louder after 10 mins

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 89 Mighty Max that has 140,000
miles on it. It starts right up and runs fine.
I notice after about 10-15 minutes driving it
starts getting louder. The best way o can
describe the sound is like a loud exhaust
sound like a hole in the exhaust. I've
checked the exhaust and there is no hole.
The weird thing is it goes away about 5
mins later. Any ideas ?

You said you checked the exhaust. To what extent? Did you just look under the rear of the truck? Or did you follow it all the way up to the engine. I had a Dodge Ram D50, they are the same truck. And my exhaust was rusted out at the headers on the motor which cause a loud rattle and an even louder exhaust. Not good.

I checked the entire exhaust system. It all looks fine. The best way I can describe what happens is its quiet until I drive about 10 mins or so when I first start it up then, it starts to sound like an old Volkswagen bug . Then about 5 mins or so later the noise stops and it runs fine after that.
