2000 expedition cranks once and stops. No start

Asked by admhums Oct 13, 2017 at 02:14 PM about the 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 expedition 4.6 cranks once then stops. I have
replaced the starter, battery, and ignition cylinder. Still does
the same thing. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Is the passive anti-theft system (PATS) armed? You mention replacing the ignition switch, which works with a part called a "halo", which reads the chip in the key, if that part isn't connected, the system can't detect the transponder chip in the key and disarm.

I had a locksmith come out and program the transponder keys for the new ignition and he validated that the keys were being read. Tried to start it and the starter tried to turn once and stopped. Sounded like it got stuck. I also tried to jump the starter from the solenoid and the same thing happened.

Pull the starter and bench test it. Check some youtube vids for a how-to. I would also do a voltage drop test to starter for proper connections.
