My 1996 Honda Civic EX sedan starts "sputtering" as soon as I press the A/C button
after I turn my air on. I just recharged the air about a week ago. We have the car
running, with the air on like he can states. At my third can in, the car started making a
"sputtering" sound. It sounded like it was going to die and then come back. When I
drove it later that night and pressed the A/C button the car felt like it was going to die.
When I press on the gas it accelerates really slow and then jerks in every gear(It's a
manual 5-speed). So needless to say I haven't been pressing the A/C button. I need it
to work I live in Florida and my two year old needs A/C. Thank you for any
suggestions.
1. check tension on belt to compressor - sounds way to tight 2. not the belt and the compressor has failed and the energy required to turn it is stalling the engine. 3. Put car in neutral, run rpms up to say 2,000 plus and then turn on AC and see if it blows cold or not to diagnose the compressor failure. all the freon in the world will not solve a failed compressor #3 38810-P2F-A01 -COMPRESSOR (SANDEN) - 437.27 internet
