Oil pressure gauge shakes at idle but not when in park or driving

Asked by Kitty_britty Aug 04, 2017 at 10:38 PM about the 2000 Ford Excursion Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2000 Ford excursion,  had new oil
pump put in and sending unit. I pull a small
cargo trailer with it. Do regular oil changes,
probably more than needed but after oil
warms up the oil pressure gauge shakes, no
lights come on and it doesn't drop too low
just the needle shakes at red light . Stops
shaking  when i start driving again or put it
in park. What is going on? I want to keep
this vehicle. It has very high miles over

When you say a "real oil pressure gauge", do you mean an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and not just replacing the stock OEM gauge. Just wondering? I have a 2005 excursion 6.0 super duty with completely separate issues but Iike to take note of advice/opinions being given if I may be having a relevant issue. Thnks
