Is my transmission savable?

Asked by EZEProduction Oct 19, 2020 at 12:41 AM about the 2011 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Touring Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My tranny grinds more and more going into 5th.tranny has about 80k km on ii
Bought it used and double clutching doesn't seem now much.
Im thinking the tranny oil is original.  Wondering if a oil change will prolong the
life  of the transmission or is it time for a replacment?

Sounds like the damage is already done. An oil change wont stop it. Either time for a replacement or a rebuild.

All I can say is if it didn't do it before and it does it now while still getting worse. Something is internally going bad inside that transmission. When you say its up to temperature the only thing i can think of is the metal inside is starting to expand and thats when the issue starts? Sounds like that transmission needs to either be replaced or opened up and see what is causing the issue.

The synchros are going bad. Shift slower or learn how to double clutch until you can afford to rebuild the transmission. Look for gear oils or additives that claim to help with worn synchros.
