Is replacing the transmission worth the cost?

Asked by Guru92XF1 Jul 18, 2017 at 02:09 PM about the 2000 Ford Escort STD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Ford Escort with just over 105,000 miles.  The transmission is going out and should be replaced.  Is it worth the money to keep this car going, or should I look into getting a replacement?

Price a transmission and see for yourself. You need to gauge the condition of the rest of the car. If it is in good shape and you like the car fix it. The transmission could cost $3k installed but you can't buy a decent car for that price.

is the body rusted out at suspension points ? thats an old car , what next , head gasket ?

Sell it! I just sold my 1995 escort wagon with 180,000 miles for $400. I've owned it for 18 years. I only drive 4,000 miles a year now! In the past 2 years, I put close to $2,000 into it. New struts, timing belt, water pump, radiator and hoses, complete power steering system, rack and pinion, etc. It dropped a valve seat and needed close to $1,000 in repairs.Might need a new engine/$4,000 Got rid of it for $400.00 and bought another car! I miss that little car!
