Manual/automatic 06 subaru legacy outback

Asked by Heather May 18, 2018 at 08:59 AM about the 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT AWD

Question type: General

Is it safe for the life of my car to drive it both
automatic and manually on regular city roads? I
drive in auto,  my husband drives it manually, it just
feels to me like that option (manual) is meant for
gravel hilly roads. But i dont know much.

No difference. Just a matter of preference. Just don't over rev the engine in manual.

The manual mode can be fun...at the clear expense of fuel economy (surprise him with that one over dinner!)...but I tell my clients to reserve it for use as an engine brake when descending a steep or wet hill. M2 will limit you to under 30mph, making breaking easier and safer.
