Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my brakes become spongy after depressed on the pedal. I have replaced the power brake booster, bled the system , check pads...seems like there is no pressure on my system at all. What could be yhe problem?

did you replace the master cylinder? if the pedal is "spongy" there is air in the sealed system- some of these parts are wearable components- meaning they are meant to wear and be replaced as part of normal maintenance- the master cylinder, brake pads, brake calipers, brake hoses will all deteriorate with use- usually not the power vacuum booster- so, I'm confused- why replace that and not the master cylinder?

I let my 96 Accord master cylinder run dry while bleeding them. Using a quart of brake fluid to bleed did no good to rid the spongy brakes. I finially tried to crack the flair nuts in a junction, just below the master cylinder, while pumping, and that did the trick!! There are 6 lines to this junction, 3 for each M.C.circuit (one from the M.C., two going to their wheels,x2). Loosing just one of the more accessable flare nuts(while pressing the peddle), for each circuit worked (I heard air hiss out on one). The flare nut, for the lower circuit, can best be accessed from under the car. Use a high quality tight fitting wrench (S-K works(10mm)) for they're tight. A yahoo to share! Non ABS (BTW)

I replaced my master cylinder because my brakes were spongy, bleed everything properly I’m not getting any air bubbles out of the caliper or anything but my brakes are still spongy. I do have an abs light on that will not go away no matter what. What else could it be?
