EPC Light and smell of gas

Asked by Gedeon Jan 16, 2018 at 12:31 PM about the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving on the freeway when my EPC light came on as
I was merging onto an exit. There was no noise or notice of
any loss of power as I was driving, but the smell of fuel was
within the vehicle. When I came to a stop as I was passing
through a merge I lost power and was unable to accelerate.
A few moths ago I had the fuel injection fixed and the
throttle body replaced, recently had the intake manifold
replaced. Could it be a sensor or something more? Looking
under the car, I couldn't see anything leaking more did I
smell gas under the hood.

All I know about the EPC light is you should stop driving car right away except straight to a shop to be checked out or repaired, but because you smell gas, I would have it towed. Since a shop did some major work to your throttle body, check if they'll cover it under some sort of warranty. Most reputable shops will stand by their work and at least investigate the problem and advise what went wrong. They (or your insurance) might cover the tow too.
