Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. Write them down

Sounds like a loose or crossed wire(s), or distributor cap not seated down tightly or a cracked plug. Those are the best places to start at least, AFter you read the code that set your check engine light!
