Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This happened twice to me previously, car just started accelerating on its own.
Had to shut off at key.  Scary. As if car was possessed.  Did it today while my
son was driving and almost drove into another car.

Check for binding at the throttle body. There is a cable that operates this from your accelerator pedal. There is also an idle speed solenoid that ramps up and down idle speed. Both of the should be check by a qualified technician, for your own safety.
