I'm looking at a 1999 Honda Accord EX with 174,000 miles on it, what should I be looking out for?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

It will pass inspection. Seems to idle fine. Unable to test drive yet but probably Friday morning. Belongs to a mechanic about 2 miles away from me that I like but do not know real well. He bought it at an auction and does not know history. I looked underneath and saw no rust at all. Noticed the A/C compressor did not have a belt on it and the pulley was a bit rusty. drivers side window (power) went up/down smoothly as did the sunroof.
Read some reviews and looks like the transmission could be an issue soon or not? Should I ask the guy to change the tranny fluid and check it for signs of wear?
I'm currently a student living on loans and disability income so I want to make sure this car is a good bet before I buy. Thanks so much for your help.

Experience tells me I would stay away from it unless desperate for a car.
