2005 ford ranger 4x4 cuts off won,t crank for hours

2005 ford ranger cranks runs fine,get in traffic mainly intersections and it cuts
off.beeb towed 4 times,after hour or more it will crank.inertia switch
changed,fuel filters changed.still getting stranded.dashboard lights up when it
dies

Check the ignition control module. Ford has had a long running issue with these-they overheat and kill the ignition spark completely, then once it cools down enough the ignition spark is back. Start it in your driveway, run it until it conks out, and immedaitely check for spark with a timing light.
