Engine ignition loss 3000 rpm

Asked by Steve Jun 18, 2018 at 11:51 PM about the 2000 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Accord LX has a hard miss and loss of power at almost exactly 3000
rpm. I've replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs less then a year ago for the
same issue. Fix the problem at that time. I feel like it's an ignition modal
problem or something related. It is a hot issue. Doesn't happen cold. I don't
have experience with Hondas but it seems to me to be an ignition modal kind
of problem. I think I want to replace the distributor. Any thoughts?

Youre on the right track! The ignition control module (which is within the distributor) can "break down" when hot as can the ignition coil which is also in the distributor (4 cylinder models). There's also the cam position and crank position sensors incorporated in the distributor also and they can start to break down when hot too. Your best bet is to go to a local pick and pull scrapyard, find an identical distributor out of a clean looking but wrecked Accord same as yours and swap them (its not hard, do your research). Stick with genuine Honda, aftermarket replacements are very problematic with Hondas

Thanks Brian. That's what I'm thinking. Experienced agreement is what I needed. I just don't have much experience with Hondas.

I'm having a very similar problem. The codes that were returned were P2646, P0420, and P0139 when I had the check engine light checked out. Also the local auto shop suggested the following problems: VTEC solenoid Valve, VTEC Pressure switch, Engine Oil Pressure sensor, and/or variable vlave timing actuator. I have a 2006 Honda Accord 2.4 4cylinder. It isn't a VTEC. Any ideas?
