I have a 2002 cavalier, I just put in a new pump assembly and a new filter, but it will not start. It has been down over a year and I think the gas went bad. How can I check to see if I am getting fue

Turn the key to the on position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump prime up then turn off. If the fuel pump does turn on then hook up a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure. Also check for spark at a spark plug wire, may have no spark.
