2001 taurus starting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a new battery, new starter, new wires to
starter and fuse box. When I turn key to start I get
a "thump" and you can hear the starter solenoid.
When it does start and run its rough like the crank
position sensor is bad. Would that cause the
audible thump and not allow it to start?

What engine does it have in it? I would check the oil level. And were there any warnings or odd behaviors before u replaced the starter?
