Question type: Maintenance & Repair

whenever the a/c or heater gets turned on when the headlights are on, the cooling fans both turn on, and the surge of power makes the headlights dim. i want to fix this problem. just recently put a new alternator on. what gives?

The lights, to state the obvious, should not dim when any other power- consuming device, be it cooling fans, heater blower, whatever. You say you just put a new alternator on..was it the right one, enough amperage? Belt tight, hear a squeal? It is odd that it is that combination of things do that. Say the headlights are not on. Then you turn on the heater blower...the fans do not come on? Even a new or rebuilt alternator may not be putting out proper amperage, that happens, or you got the wrong one, check that. Amps that it's putting out I mean.
