2002 Honda Civic(Manuel) Grinding noise on acceleration and turns

Asked by Japansam Sep 15, 2017 at 05:52 PM about the 2002 Honda Civic DX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm currently looking to purchase a used
2002 Honda Civic(Manuel) with 160,000
miles for $2500 but during the test drive
the car made a noticeable metal on metal
grinding sound only when accelerating. It
occurred more from 1st to 3rd gear and
less in 4th and 5th gear. It could also be
heard while making turns. What could be
the issues causing the noise and Is this an
issue that I should not even pursue buying
the car or ask for a lower price? Thank you

I would not buy it but the cause may be bad wheel bearings. I would not pay more than $500 the way it is.
