I am moving from Chicago, Illinois to Arlington VA August 1st. If I buy a car today, do i have to register it in Illinois and then again in VA? Won't temp tags cover me till I get to VA?

Even if I have to pay Illinois taxes, can't I wait to register my car in VA to avoid paying to register it here?

If you are buying the car from a dealer give them your new address in VA and all will be taken care of by them. IF they can't or WON'T have them fill out an out of state purchase form and the temp tag will hold you for the time it takes to register it in VA and only pay the taxes and registration in VA. If it's a new car insist they do it for you!
