Chevy malibu issues, help?

My Chevy Malibu shut off today saying reduced
engine power. It went to about 40mph on the
highway before smoking and then eventually
shutting completely off?
Does someone know anything about this ?

Check your coolant level. If you're extremely low on coolant the temperature gauge may not show that the engine is overheating. Hope that helps! Jim
