I took my car in for a full service today. They did the service and my car suddenly cannot be driven. What could the issue be?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a diagnostic ran and the biggest code that came back that could
cause a problem was from camshaft position sensor in block 1&2. After the
full service they cleared the codes so the check engine light would turn off,
when I drove off I couldn't accelerate and went back. The shop owner
seemed to have expected me back then said that I had to pay $500 to
have it fixed. This was odd to me because this was never an issue, I have
driven the car 14,000 miles and as soon as they hooked their system up to
it, it became a problem? He was telling me it was always an issue which
clearly it wasn't and I think he is trying scam me. I am just curious to how
this suddenly became an issue and I talked to one of his mechanics about
it separate from the owner and he said "what do you expect? He charged
you really cheap for the full service." I am wondering how this could've
been cause, how to get it fixed, and if I have any legal rights.

Take it to another reputable mechanic for a second opinion. Maybe the first guy messed with something.

I'd take it to another shop to have it verified. A cam sensor problem would have sent an error code which would have turned on the check engine light. And your right, turning off the code should have made no difference in the way your car was running. And now it does? Ya, something fishy. I don't know legalities tho.

I plan to take it to another shop but want to make sure they dont pick up his dirty work by having some type of knowledge of where this problem stemmed from. Especially sense a diagnostic might run me $50-150 in my area.

If I were you, I would have my car towed to your local Cadillac dealership and let them figure out what went wrong with the previous person's work.... then, after you are certain what they incorrectly did, call and report the first shop that DISABLED your car to the local Bureau of Automotive Repairs. Good luck.

So as of now, I took it to another shop and they are unable to see the codes because they were cleared and the transmission will not shift above two limiting my speed at 12mph. Pretty much all the mechanics are just scratching their head wondering why....
