Sounds like they lost battery power at some point before you bought it, and the radio went into anti-theft mode. You'll need to take the VIN and proof of ownership (registration, etc.) to a Honda dealer and they can give you the correct code to put in, which should fix your radio.

Make sure you save the code you get from Honda in case you need it again!
