hello i dnt know if this is going to sound stupid but my 1973 beetle wount idel or run rite in the morning and when i switch my lights on and drive about 100m the car dies i life in South Africa so my question is is it because of the cold or what can be the problem.

The idle issue will be bad plug,s or wires,the battery charging issue is the alternator not charging battery.

Tune the 43 year old engine, set the valve lash too. NOT a charging issue.. It will die if you drive it 100 meters with the lights OFF! The carburetor should be gone through / rebuilt IF, it hasn't been done in the last 10 years.
