If they are not working on both sides you probably have a ground problem. Pull out the multi-meter and begin checking. Trace the ground wires from the tail lights. They may all come together at a wiring harness plug.

You won't believe this. Raise your tilt 1 or 2 notches up and recheck

Amazingly, this worked for me! 1 notch up wouldn't do it, but 2 notches up did the trick. Makes me think a ground wire in column is worn & rubbing at full extension.
