Reduced Speen

Asked by iceman501960 Dec 28, 2018 at 11:30 AM about the 2016 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: General

When driving down the highway I can hear a roaring sound and when coasting
down a steep hill if I take my foot off the gas the vehicle will slow down as if
something is holding it back.

Jack up each wheel and spin it, to check if you have a brake hanging up. Hopefully that's all it is, and not something related to the transmission/OD. A tranny shop can put it on their diagnostics and test each shift solenoid, OD, torque converter, things like TPS, speed sensors, etc.

Some of these newer trucks designed to pull heavy loads come with an "engine brake" feature that use the engine's compression to help slow the vehicle. I think Dodge has it on their Cummings Diesel powered trucks. I'm sure Ford has it too on their Power Stroke trucks. When I drove truck, they had a Jacob's Braking system (Jake Brake) that would roar when you let off the throttle coming down a hill, thus prevented overheated/failed brakes. You could switch it on/off and high/med/low. A real life saver in hilly country.
