Won't start

Asked by Rodgerberry Mar 18, 2019 at 10:37 PM about the 2001 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 v6 mustang standard transmission. I
try to start it and I get about one click and nothing.
Then the lights, door chime and radio go
completely dead. Turn key to off position. Pop
good and it all comes back on. I can push start it
and it runs. It has shut off when I've hit the brakes.
Battery is at 14 v when running.

What is the battery at when its off? if its at 14 volts when running it seems the alternator is good. I would check the battery connections for looseness if its a sporadic problem. Then check the grounds from battery to chassis and battery to engine. Also check ground to starter and also power to starter. It sounds like a grounding issue. But if it starts by being jump started then it could just be a starter issue, either bad power/ground or a faulty starter.
