96 Yukon won’t shift out of second and speedometer doesn’t work.

Asked by Jeremy Mar 15, 2019 at 10:19 AM about the 1996 GMC Yukon SL 2dr 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 96 yukon z71.
Speedometer/odometer doesn’t work. When put in
drive it red lines in first before shifting hard to
second. 4x4 works. There looks to be a vacuum
hose missing from the top driver side of the
transfer case by the speed sensor. I have not tried
replacing anything yet. Trying to get a good idea
before I go buying this or that. Any input is greatly
appreciated!

The speed sensor in the transfer case looks good. The one at the rear of the transmission visibly looks bad. (Cracked). Changing that today. If I still have the same issue where would I look next? Voltage?
