BMW 840ci Headlining cleaning method

Please let me have ideas for the best method of cleaning the headlining.  I suspect that the marks may be dried soft drink sugars.

Dab Warm water and a mild dish washing detergent like Joy on a cotton cloth on the affected areas. Dab with a dry cotton cloth. Repeat.
