The hatchback is open but the latch is in the closed position

I have 2015 Jeep Cherokee.  The hatchback is open but the latch is in the
closed position so I am unable to close the hatchback.  It is not an automatic
lift gate.  I tried to move the latch to the open position by trying to pull down
with a screwdriver but it won't budge?  Any suggestions on what to do?

I guess it is called a lift gate not a hatchback. I guess I am old school. Any help would be appreciated.
